The Efficacy of Dementia Prevention Integrative Program for Cognitive function, Depression, and Quality of life in the Elderly Non-Dementia

    Abstract

    The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of an integrated dementia prevention program on the cognitive function, depression and quality of life of female elderly people without dementia who were cared by community health practitioners. Method: The one-group pretest-posttest experimental design was adopted, and an integrated dementia prevention program was conducted in eight sessions for eight weeks, once a week, 120 minutes each. Results: The integrated dementia prevention program was found to have effects on the cognitive function (t=2.53, p=.015), depression (t=-3.60, p=.001) and quality of life (t=4.79, p<.001) of the elderly women. As for satisfaction level, the percentage of their satisfaction stood at 79 percent or more. Conclusion: The findings of the study ascertained that the education through the integrated dementia prevention program was effective, and that satisfaction level with the education was high. Therefore sustained re-education should be provided by the integrated dementia prevention program.
